Control Montly Household Expenses

If you are spending more than you are making, you are a serious candidate for bankruptcy.

In a balance personal monthly budget you should expect to spend:

  • 25 - 30% of your monthly net income on housing.
  • 5 - 15% of your net income on consumer debts, including car payments and credit cards.
  • 2 - 10% on utilities.
  • 10 - 15% of your net income for food (groceries, dining out).
  • 2 - 5% of your net income on transportation (maintenance on your car and the cost of gas or bus or train fare).
  • 2 - 5% of your monthly net income for health, life, auto, and renter’s/home owner’s insurance payments.
  • 2 - 10% for personal expenses (clothing, dry cleaning, haircuts, entertainment).
  • 5 - 10% of your net earnings into a savings account.
  • Set aside 1 to 2% of your monthly net income formiscellaneous expenses.
