Free Legal Aid Kentucky
Legal aid programs provide free legal assistance for individuals and groups who cannot otherwise afford a private lawyer.
How does the free legal aid process work?
You will be asked a few questions for eligibility purposes. (Be low income and meet certain income standards which vary depending upon family size.)
If you qualify you will talk to an attorney who will give you advice and may refer you to your local office for extended service.
The local office will then decide whether or not to accept your case depending on the facts of your case and availability of staff. Otherwise, you may be referred to a private contract attorney or one who has agreed to provide services for free through Volunteer Lawyers Program.
Usually these programs charge no fees. However, sometimes the client will have to pay court costs.
